From Strings to Steps: A Journey of Music, Martial Arts, and Dance
At the tender age of 4, I begrudgingly picked up the violin under the watchful eye of my "tiger mom." Fast forward nearly two decades, and what once felt like a chore has blossomed into a profound appreciation for musicality and theory. Alongside the violin, my love for music led me to explore other instruments like the guitar, piano, and drums, all while immersing myself in alternative rock and electronic music during marathon sessions of MMORGPs.
But music wasn't my only passion. In high school, I stumbled upon breakdancing tutorials on YouTube, teaching myself moves like windmills and eventually wowing audiences at talent shows and assemblies. This newfound love for dance only grew stronger during my university years, especially after a semester abroad in Korea where I joined a house dance team, delving deeper into groove and rhythm.
Outside the realm of dance, martial arts became another significant part of my life. From Taekwondo championships to extensive training in boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the discipline and physicality of combat sports enriched my understanding of movement and technique.
However, life's journey took an unexpected turn when a sparring injury left me unable to continue teaching Taekwondo, forcing me to close my school and focus on rehabilitation. During this time, I explored other avenues of fitness, including swimming, cycling, and strength training, all while yearning for a new passion to fill the void.
Enter Mexico City, a pivotal destination that reignited my zest for life. Inspired by a dream and the vibrant cultural scene, I delved into salsa and, ultimately, sensual bachata, finding a perfect fusion of athleticism, connection, and creativity on the dance floor. With each step, I rediscovered the joy of movement and the power of music to uplift the soul.
This newfound passion led me to embark on an indefinite journey, immersing myself in dance training and socials, honing my skills in salsa, bachata, and beyond. It was during this time that I discovered Zouk, a dance form that resonated with me on a profound level, prompting a move to São Paulo, the mecca of Zouk, in pursuit of mastery.
Despite the challenges and setbacks along the way, my journey through music, dance, and martial arts has been one of resilience, growth, and endless exploration. Now, as I continue to learn and evolve in the vibrant dance community of São Paulo, I am excited to share my experiences and insights with fellow enthusiasts and dreamers alike.
